Structural Health Monitoring
4Subsea provides structural health monitoring of wind turbines during installation and operation, using sensor solutions that measure fatigue, motion, and relevant environmental conditions to deliver deeper insight into structural responses.
Data is streamed continuously to our digital platform, 4insight®, where it is processed using advanced algorithms and machine learning models to provide insight into critical structural response parameters and service life estimates.
-
End-to-end system deliveries for monitoring structural response of foundations and towers with robust sensors, enabling design verification and lifetime extension assessments. Data can be stored on 4Subsea’s cloud-based platform 4insight® and processed with advanced algorithms and machine learning models to provide insight into critical structural response parameters and projected lifetime estimates.
-
4Subsea delivers fully compliant monitoring systems designed to meet both industry standards and specific operator or project requirements.
-
Sensor selection is based on project needs, using either 6-DOF motion and strain sensors or a combination of electrical or optical strain gauges with accelerometers and inclinometers.
-
4Subsea delivers structural health monitoring services covering system design, installation, commissioning, data storage, processing, and visualisation.
-
Data is stored, processed, and visualised on the 4insight® platform using algorithms for structural health and lifetime assessments. 4Subsea delivers digital solutions that contextualise and analyse key performance data for calibration of design models, integrity assessments, and service life predictions. Local on-premise solutions can also be tailored to project and operator needs.
Motion Monitoring for Offshore Wind
4Subsea provides sensors and monitoring solutions that deliver critical data for offshore wind asset integrity evaluations. By measuring accelerations and rotations where needed, the sensors deliver the data required for wind farm operators to make informed, data-driven decisions. Insights from this data help improve operations, extend asset life, and reduce operational costs.
With data access through the 4insight® platform and advanced data processing, 4Subsea’s solutions offer visibility into key asset motion measurements. Built for offshore conditions, 4Subsea’s sensors ensure reliability and accuracy in challenging environments. These solutions help engineers and operators maintain control, maximise efficiency, and optimise asset performance.
Applications:
- Static cables and CPS systems
- Dynamic cables
- Mooring lines
- Fixed and Floating Foundations

Lifetime Extension of Wind Turbines
Lifetime extension of offshore wind assets is becoming increasingly important as more operational wind turbines approach the end of their design life. To comply with standards, rules, and regulations for lifetime extension, it is necessary to verify the status and integrity of assets, both wind turbines, substations, and cables, before documenting continued safe operation beyond the original design life. This process involves combining analysis, monitoring, and inspections.
4Subsea has decades of experience in lifetime extension of offshore structures, combining domain expertise with practical experience and advanced analytical tools. Retrofit sensors are designed for lifetime extension assessments, and when integrated with the 4insight® platform for data processing, they provide key insights into the structural response of towers and foundations.

Engineering Services
4Subsea combines advanced analytical tools with experienced engineers from the ocean space to support client challenges. 4Subsea provides both cost-efficient solutions and concepts for new developments as well as critical decision support to operators of both fixed and floating wind systems.
Bottom-fixed wind
4Subsea leverages decades of experience in the ocean space and advanced analytical tools to provide critical decision support to operators of fixed wind farms.
-
Traditionally, loads on fixed wind foundations are determined through an iterative load analysis (ILA) between the foundation designer and the turbine OEM. The ILA process is time-consuming, not tailored to foundation design, and limits the ability to optimise the foundation. By using a coupled model of the foundation and turbine, the foundation designer becomes less dependent on the turbine OEM’s load iteration process. This enables design iterations at the designer’s own pace, reduces the risk of non-optimal designs, and lowers the overall cost of the foundation.
-
4Subsea combines extensive offshore experience with advanced tools to increase the reliability of cables and CPS systems and to reduce the risk of failures. The company supports offshore wind developers with independent design analyses, third-party verification services, and root-cause investigations of failures to provide insight and prevent recurrence.
