Asset Integrity

4Subsea ensures the integrity, safety, and longevity of offshore assets with advanced sensors, data analytics, and digital twin technology. Our solutions empower operators with real-time insights, supporting predictive maintenance and efficient operations in challenging offshore environments.

We understand that asset integrity is essential for the safety, performance and lifetime extension of offshore infrastructure. Our engineers have spent decades learning how subsea assets behave, and how they fail. That understanding, in the hands of a younger generation of engineers who build on how the industry and its technology have developed since, is what keeps oil and gas fields safe, reliable, and in production for longer.

Our solutions empower operators to proactively manage asset integrity, reduce risks, and extend the lifecycle of critical infrastructure. Here’s how we deliver value across five key areas:

Lifetime Extension

Many subsea assets reach the end of their design life while still fit for service. The question is how much life remains, and on what conditions. We answer it by assessing how the asset has actually been loaded, including sensor monitoring to capture riser movements over time, and by testing the original design against the requirements that apply today, not the ones that applied when it was built. We have done this for around 500 flexible pipes across ten North Sea assets, on systems designed for 20–25 years and extended to as much as 45.

Challenge: Design life is reached while the asset is still fit for service.

Solution: Establish current condition through monitoring of riser movements and loading history, close the gaps between the original design and today’s requirements, and set out the conditions for continued operation.

Value: Extended production, deferred investment, and a documented basis for the decision.

Engineering & Integrity Management

Integrity management comes down to knowing the condition of an asset and deciding what to do next. We give operators the basis for those decisions by combining engineering expertise, analysis, and field testing.

  • Challenge: Ensuring integrity of aging infrastructure.
  • Solution: Provide integrity management plans, anomaly assessments, and life extension studies.
  • Value: Reduced risk, maintained production, and prolonged asset life.

Digital Services

Digital technology plays a pivotal role in managing the integrity of subsea assets. Our solutions enable operators to replace inefficient processes, improve data accessibility, and monitor asset performance in real time.

  • Challenge: Fragmented data and reliance on manual processes hinder effective asset management.
  • Solution: Provide a unified platform for lifecycle tracking and integrity monitoring.
  • Value: Streamlined operations and improved decision-making.

Research & Sharing Insight

The complexity of subsea operations requires continuous learning and collaboration. By engaging in joint initiatives and industry research, such as the FlexShare™ joint operator initiative for flexible pipes, we help operators navigate technical challenges and establish best practices.

  • Challenge: Lack of shared insights slows industry progress and increases costs.
  • Solution: Facilitate knowledge-sharing and provide data-driven insights through collaborative programs like FlexShare™.
  • Value: Improved safety, operational efficiency, and industry innovation.

Monitoring

Without accurate data, operators face uncertainty in their decision-making processes. Our monitoring systems provide the insights necessary to optimise operations and maintain asset performance.

  • Challenge: Insufficient or inaccurate data increases operational risks.
  • Capability: Supply reliable monitoring tools and analytics to track asset conditions.
  • Value: Enhanced safety and operational efficiency.

Failure Investigation

When something fails or is damaged, it is important to know whether the asset needs to be shut down, repaired, or replaced. It is just as important to establish the root cause, so it does not happen again. We form task force teams that support operators immediately, working to systematic methods built on years of experience and expertise.

  • Challenge: Deciding what to do after a failure, with production and safety at stake.
  • Solution: Mobilise a task force and apply systematic investigation methods to establish cause and condition.
  • Value: Faster decisions, less downtime, and failures that do not repeat.
